Back-door philanthropy
Guy
Warpness and WyoTech have donated a new back door for the
Chamber offices. The present door is in a poor state of repair,
and contributes mightily to our high winter heating bills.
WyoTech will donate the cost of the door, and they are going to
install it too!
Many
thanks to Guy and WyoTech for their hands-on support of the
Chamber.
Now, if only
someone would donate a Lear jet...

Ludwig
Photography is proud to have been chosen to produce the
cover image. Studios around the state were considered.
Laramie native and LCCC student Desiree Wilson is the

The
wedding gown was graciously provided by Mountain Valley
Bridal located on 2nd Street in Historic downtown
Laramie.
And
the cowboy hat and designer cowboy boots were provided
by Martindale’s Western Store located on Grand Avenue,
Historic Downtown Laramie across from the Grand News
Stand.
Anne
Brande, 4th generation Wyoming native and 4th generation

Laramie River. |

There's still time to put your business on the map!
For
the very first time, the LACC City Street Map will be printed in
FULL COLOR!
I'm
certain you've all used
the Laramie City Street Map
to get around town - perhaps, like me, you keep a copy in
your car - and I'm also certain you've seen it on refrigerator
doors and dorm-room walls all over Laramie!
Around 35,000* copies of the
Laramie City Street Map are
circulated by the Chamber each year to tourists,
businesses, students, and residents, and
also
it is sent out all over the state - and all over
the United States - in relocation packets.
As advertising opportunities go, it's unbeatable!

I'm now compiling the new Laramie City Street Map, and I'd
like to offer you a chance to advertise on it.
I'm sure you'll appreciate how your
business or organization can benefit from this unique
advertising opportunity. After all, there's only one
Laramie City Street Map, and only a limited number of
advertising slots on it! In addition to placing your
advertisement prominently on the map border, we also mark your
business on the map itself - so people know exactly where you
are.
What better way is there to show you're part of Laramie than to
be right there on the FULL COLOR Laramie map!
The
map is smaller in size this year than in previous years, and
advertising spaces are filling up fast.
Prices for the 2008 Laramie City Street Map advertisement spaces
are as follows:
Size A
(2.75 x 3.75 in.) $600
Size B
(3.5 x 1.25 in.) $400
Size C
(2.75 x 1.75 in.) $300
I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Last week's e-news erroneously gave a distribution figure of
60,000 copies. This was a typo. Sorry. The
correct figure is 35,000.
Legislators tackle budget bill this week
February 18, 2008
CHEYENNE – After the first week of this year’s legislative
session, both houses of the Wyoming Legislature began working on
the 2009-2010 biennial budget this week.
Both the House and Senate are working identical “mirror” copies
of the $7.8 billion budget bill, and both plan to hold all three
readings of the budget bill this week.
After the third reading of the bill is complete, legislators
take a “straw poll” on any amendments adopted by the opposite
body. The “straw poll” is to provide non-binding guidance to
members of a conference committee that will be appointed from
each house. The purpose of the joint conference committee is to
work out the differences in the House and Senate positions on
the budget.
Joint conference committee work is expected to occur during the
week of Feb 25. After each chamber votes to concur on conference
committee actions, the bill will be sent to the governor for his
signature or veto of the bill, likely during the week of Mar. 3.
There are a number of ways for the public to participate as
lawmakers begin tackling the Cowboy State’s budget. The public
is welcome to watch the daily action on the budget bill in
Cheyenne from the House and Senate third floor galleries. Those
who can’t make it to the Capitol in Cheyenne can find a variety
of avenues to track the debate on the Legislature’s Web site,
including listening to live streaming audio of House and Senate
floor debate at
http://legisweb.state.wy.us/
The public can also leave a
detailed message for legislators by calling the Senate
receptionist at (307) 777-7711 or the House receptionist at
(307) 777-7852. The public can write legislators a letter by
sending it to the legislator’s name, in care of the Wyoming
House or Senate, State Capitol, Cheyenne, WY 82002. Fax messages
may be sent to a designated legislator at (307) 777-5466.
Legislators can also be contacted by e-mail, with all e-mail
addresses listed at
http://legisweb.state.wy.us/email/email.htm

SBIR Grant Awards $2.7 Million in 2007
In
2007, 20 small businesses in eight Wyoming communities received
more than $2.7 million from the Small Business Innovation
Research (SBIR) program.
“The
federal SBIR program is a primary source of seed capital for
Wyoming’s technology-based start-up businesses and is a major
component in the drive to diversify our economy,” says Gene
Watson, Wyoming SBIR/STTR Initiative (WSSI) program manager at
the University of Wyoming.
The
program is becoming increasingly competitive nationally,
reinforcing the need for Wyoming to strengthen support for
technology entrepreneurs, he adds.
The
SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are
grant-funding competitions specifically targeted to the nation’s
for-profit small business sector, Watson says.
The
successful Wyoming businesses received awards ranging from
$5,000 to $780,000 to support development of diverse products.
-
Cha Corporation of Laramie received a 2007 Phase II SBIR
award of$780,000
-
Firehole Technology and Z4 Energy, both received $100,000
2007 SBIR Phase I awards
-
Advanced Biologicals; Elk Mountain Herbs; Firehole
Technologies; SoftRay; Z4 Energy Systems all received 2007
WSSI Phase 0 awards
